BMW India rolls out 1,00,000th locally produced car from Chennai plant
BMW India has now manufactured over one lakh cars locally for the Indian market. The milestone was reached today with the roll-out of a grey BMW 740Li M Sport with enhancements from its Individual program. The luxury sedan also received special badging to commemorate this achievement.
BMW Plant Chennai details
The BMW Group Plant in Chennai began operations on March 29, 2007 and celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. The plant has been built to the same international quality standards as any other BMW plant across the world and uses the same level of technology and a highly-skilled workforce. The plant employs over 650 personnel and runs on electricity sourced fully from renewable sources. BMW has also managed to reach a 50 per cent localisation level which has created a strong network of local suppliers for the brand.
BMW locally produced models
BMW currently produces 13 models across the BMW and Mini brands at its Chennai facility. These are the 2 Series Gran Coupe, the 3 Series and 3 Series Gran Limousine, M340i, 5 Series, 6 Series Gran Turismo, 7 Series, X1, X3, X4, X5, X7 and MINI Countryman. This is supplemented by a wide range of imported offerings, the most recent of which has been the new BMW M4 sports car and the BMW iX electric SUV.
