BMW India seems to be extending its EV portfolio in India as they look all set to launch the i5 in India for the very first time. They have now officially commenced the pre-launch bookings for the i5 M60 xDrive which will be available in India in very limited numbers. The car will be offered in India as a Completely Built-Up (CBU) model, and reservations may be made through the BMW dealership network and the BMW Online Shop.

BMW i5 M60 xDrive: Powertrain and Battery

The BMW i5 M60 includes an additional front-wheel-drive engine that produces 601PS and 820Nm of torque. That's almost as powerful as the current BMW M5 Competition. This model accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 230 kmph.

There's an 81.2kWh battery pack onboard that can be charged up from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes using a 205 kW DC fast charger. On the WLTP cycle, the M60 xDrive version has a range of up to 516 km.

The i5 receives unique spring-travel-dependent dampening and self-levelling air suspension in the rear. Naturally, adjustable dampers may be specified, and active stabilisation is standard on the M60.

BMW i5 M60 xDrive: Exterior and Interior

The now-famous kidney grille is based on the old 'sharknose' BMWs, but the four LED headlights are placed in a more aggressively-shaped manner. The lower front is similar, with a duct diverting the wind away from the wheels to reduce turbulence. Since this i5 carries the 'M' badge, it comes with 21-inch M-specific wheels.

Inside, a large widescreen infotainment system with a 12.3-inch screen behind the steering wheel and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. The most recent version of iDrive with BMW's 8.5 OS is also included, as is the ability to play games on the screen. And, as with the 7 Series, a narrow touch-sensitive strip running beneath the instrument panel controls the ventilation and air conditioning.

Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India said, "We are very excited to announce the pre-launch bookings of the first-ever BMW i5 M60 xDrive in India. The BMW i5 M60 xDrive is an epic athlete - it captivates from start to finish, and leads with elegant design, innovative technology and dynamic performance. BMW Group India has been a leader in the electric luxury car segment for two consecutive years, offering the most versatile portfolio - BMW i7, BMW iX, BMW i4, BMW iX1 and MINI SE. With the introduction of the first-ever BMW i5 M60 xDrive, we will further enhance the exceptionally diverse and innovative lineup of electric vehicles, and strengthen BMW Group India's position in the Indian electric luxury car segment."
