BMW has unveiled the all-new i3 electric sedan, positioning it as the four-door sibling to the BMW iX3. The new model also offers an early look at what the next-generation 3 Series could be like.

- Delivers a range of 900 km on a single charge
- 400 km range top-up in 10 minutes
- Features 17.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, a full-width Panoramic Vision display

Built on BMW's latest Neue Klasse platform, the i3 comes with a dual-motor '50 xDrive' setup producing 469 PS and 645 Nm. While the battery capacity has not been officially disclosed, it is expected to use the same 108.7 kWh pack as the iX3. The claimed WLTP range stands at an impressive 900 km. Fast-charging capability is a highlight, with support for up to 400kW DC charging, allowing a 400km top-up in just 10 minutes. It also supports AC charging up to 22kW.

Inside, the i3 features a minimalist cabin inspired by the iX3. It gets a distinctive steering wheel design, a large 17.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a full-width Panoramic Vision display that doubles as the driver's information screen. Physical controls are limited, though essential buttons are placed on the centre console alongside a rotary drive selector. Key features include powered front seats, ambient lighting, wireless charging, Level 2 ADAS, an AI-based assistant, and an optional 3D head-up display.

A major technological addition is BMW's new control unit called the 'Heart of Joy'. First showcased in the Vision Driving Experience concept, this system manages functions like drivetrain, braking, steering, and energy regeneration, and is said to be significantly faster than previous systems.

In terms of design, the i3 adopts BMW's new styling direction with a sharp, clean look. The front end gets slim lighting elements framed by LED accents, while the lower section features a large hexagonal air intake. The side profile sticks to a more traditional sedan shape, which BMW describes as a '2.5-box' design, instead of the usual coupe-like EV silhouette. At the rear, the car gets a flat boot design with separate LED tail-lamps and subtle black detailing. The i3 measures 4,760mm in length with a 2,897mm wheelbase.

Production will begin in Munich from August 2026, with global deliveries scheduled shortly after.
