BMW bids farewell to manual gearbox with final edition M3 in Japan

BMW has revealed the M3 MT Final Edition in Japan - priced at ¥14,200,000, this is the last M3 to come equipped with a manual gearbox. The carmaker will produce only 150 units of this special M3 manual and if the number of orders exceeds the limited number, the winner will be selected by a lottery by the end of May. Prospective customers in the country can reserve thier M3 MT Final Edition exclusively on the official BMW website. That said, customer deliveries will begin in the second quarter of 2024.

The limited edition BMW M3 MT Final Edition commemorates to the 35th anniversary of the BMW M3's first victory in the German Touring Car Championship, is a right-hand drive model equipped with a manual transmission. BMW will produce 50 units each in M Brooklyn Grey, Alpine White, and Black Sapphire. In addition, the model will also adorn special gold-painted wheels and red inserts on the seat. Internationally, BMW offers only a handful of its automobiles with manual gearbox and they are all high-performance M vehicles, such as the M2, M3, M4, and Z4.

The crux of the M3 is its 3.0-litre, straight six-cylinder, twin-turbocharged (codenamed: S58) petrol engine that develops 480PS and 550Nm in the standard version and 510PS and 650Nm in the Competition version. This motor is married to a six-speed manual gearbox and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The M3 Competition does not get the manual stick. With this, the M3 can achieve 100kmph from a standstill in just a 3.5 seconds. It tops out at 250kmph but an optional M Driver's package can increase the limit to 290kmph.
