Auto Expo 2018: 22 exhibitors unveiled over 65 products with 14 launches on Day 1

The 14th edition of the most important automobile event in the country, the 2018 Auto Expo has started with a bang. The event has opened for media for now as public days start from tomorrow February 9, 2018.

Day 1 started with Maruti Suzuki showcasing the Future S concept SUV along with the e-Survivor that is believed to take shape of a new gem Jimny. Tata Motors unveiled the H5X concept that, when takes production shape, will rival the likes of Jeep Compass in India. The company also unveiled the Baleno rivalling 45X concept. The other Indian manufacturer Mahindra brought their upcoming flagship SUV which will be a rebranded Rexton G4. The two-wheeler front too has a lot to offer. TVS motorcycles unveiled the Zeppelin cruiser concept, Ethanol powered RTR200 and a Creon electric scooter concept. In the premium space, BMW Motorrad launched the much anticipated F 750/850 GS at Rs 12.2lakh/13.75lakh, ex-showroom India.

BMW 

 

BMW Motorrad has launched the F 750/850GS adventure motorcycles in India at Rs 12.2 lakh. Both the motorcycles are bring brought to the country via the CBU route. Read detailed story here.

BMW Motorrad has confirmed that the G310 R and G 310 GS will go on sale in India around July-August 2018. The company says that there's only some amount of paperwork that's left and barring any delays, the bikes will be in showrooms during the aforementioned period. Read detailed story here.

Honda

Honda Cars has unveiled the all-new Amaze at the Auto Expo 2018. The new Honda Amaze's styling has been completely revised. Most importantly, the new Honda Amaze is based on an all-new platform that has also made it lighter than the previous offering.

Honda Clarity FCV

The hydrogen fuel cell powered Clarity FCV uses an AC synchronous motor to power the wheels, producing 177PS and an impressive 300Nm. Honda claims the car will do 750km on a tankful of 'gas', and the tank can store 141 litres of highly compressed hydrogen. The tank takes a mere 3 minutes to fill and unlike petrol-engined cars the Clarity FCV only emits H2O, or water!

The fifth generation CR-V in India gets bold, new styling but the talking point with respect to India is the introduction of the diesel engine. Honda also unveiled the new, 10th generation Honda Civic. It is Honda's largest selling model across the world. It looks sharp and modern and Honda says the interior reflects the same design language.

The Sports EV Concept is a two-seater sportscar. The Honda Sports EV Concept is a retro looking all-electric sportscar that uses the same dedicated EV platform as the Urban EV Concept.

Hyundai

Hyundai Elite i20 facelift

Hyundai India launched the Elite i20 facelift at Rs 5.34 lakh for the base petrol variant and Rs 6.73 lakh for the base diesel variant (both prices ex-showroom Delhi). These prices are a marginal and token increase over those of the current Elite i20.

Hyundai Ioniq

The Hyundai Ioniq will lock horns with the Toyota Prius, Camry Hybrid and Honda Accord Hybrid in the country. To position it competitively and price it aggressively, Hyundai will be looking at assembling the Ioniq in India, instead of importing as a CBU.

Kia

Kia SP Concept SUV

The India-specific compact SUV based on the Kia SP Concept will enter production in 2019. The Kia SP Concept has, as SUVs go, a Peter Schreyer-designed bold front appearance with a long bonnet.

2018 Kia GT2 RWD

Kia Motors India is also displaying a large range of cars that span the range from the small Picanto, said to be a car designed for first time car buyers and the Rio, a design award winning car to the Stonic, a new crossover and the Stinger, a flashy, sleek sports gran turismo. Kia Motors India also has the Soul electric vehicle and the Niro Plug in Hybrid on display.

Kawasaki

The all-new Kawasaki H2SX has arrived at the 2018 Auto Expo, price at Rs 21.8 lakh. The Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX is slightly based on the renowned H2 and will be a more affordable version of its supercharged twin.

Mahindra

Mahindra Rexton flagship SUV

The new Mahindra SUV will be a rebranded version of the G4 Rexton sold in the international markets. The all-new Mahindra SUV as not been named yet. The Mahindra SUV will come with a 2.2-litre diesel motor that makes 178PS of power and generates 420Nm of torque. This motor is mated to a 7-speed Mercedes-Benz automatic transmission.

Mahindra Stinger SUV concept

The Mahindra TUV Stinger is a drop-top SUV with the underpinnings of the Mahindra TUV300. However, M&M has not shared any other specifications for the Mahindra Stinger at the Auto Expo. The Mahindra TUV Stinger concept is powered by a 1.5-litre Mahindra mHawk three cylinder diesel engine producing 145PS and 320Nm. It features cladding along the sides to add to its robust look.

Mahindra UDO concept

The UDO is a compact two-seater Concept Electric mobility pod which has been conceptualized to address the issues that plague urban mobility, including traffic congestion and pollution. It comes equipped with  micro climate control, lighting, touch-screen infotainment and bluetooth enabled audio systems

Mahindra Atom concept

It is powered by Mahindra's new electric Powertrain which features batteries that can be swapped to extend the vehicle's range, allowing it to operate uninterrupted for long hours. It is also equipped with an intelligent connectivity system, making bookings and payments seamless and easy. At the same time its smart technology allows one to seamlessly connect with multiple transport modes

Mahindra e-KUV100

The Mahindra e-KUV100 It boasts a range of over 140 km, and optional fast charging which can extend its range by 80% in less than an hour. The Mahindra e-KUV100 comes equipped with smartphone connectivity, remote diagnostics, cabin pre-cooling, location tracking and it even monitors your driving pattern and battery status.

Mahindra Treo concept

The Mahindra Treo concept aims to promote mass adoption of electric vehicles in the country. The Treo will facilitate last mile movement and connectivity in tier 1 as well as tier 2 and 3 cities.

Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Suzuki Concept Future-S

The Concept-S talks about best in class space from a compact SUV. The design is very bold in the sense that the front of the car uses more or less upright surfaces and the A-pillar is nearly vertical. The ultra-slim grille and headlights give the Concept S a sleek and mean look.

Maruti Suzuki e-Survivor concept

The Suzuki e-Survivor is an electric vehicle (EV) and comes powered by two electric motors for the front and back wheels. The Suzuki e-Survivor SUV, as stated by the company earlier, inherits the magnetic identity of Suzuki from the Jimny (Gypsy in India) and the Vitara.

Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes Benz EQ Concept

The Mercedes-Benz EQ electric SUV concept previews Mercedes-Benz's first production electric model. Mercedes describes the concept's styling as an electro look. The EQ is powered by two electric motors.

Mercedes-Maybach S 650 and S 560

The luxurious offering is at the top of Mercedes-Benz's line of luxury cars and features a long wheelbase, handcrafted cabin and a host of other exclusive features. The Mercedes-Maybach S 650 is powered by a handbuilt, 6-litre, V12, biturbo motor. The motor produces 630PS and 1,000Nm.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class All Terrain showcase

The new E-Class All Terrain is a jacked up E-class station wagon with Mercedes-Benz's 4MATIC all-wheel drive as standard. The design looks quite striking with a bold, twin-slat grille and blacked-out wheel arch covers. The E-Class All Terrain also comes with air-suspension which allows the driver increase the ride height while driving off-road.

Besides these three vehicles Mercedes-Benz is displaying the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 car as well as the AMG GT R and the AMG GLC 43 Coupe. In addition, the company also has the current line-up of cars on display.

Piaggio

Aprilia SR125

The SR 125 slots below the SR150 and gets the same 125cc, motor that powers the Vespa 125. The styling remains identical to the SR150, save for new graphics and colours.

Aprilia Storm

The Storm is the adventure scooter variant of the SR125. It gets wider, dual-purpose tyres and big windscreen on the handlebar. Aprilia has not mentioned anything about changes to the suspension.

Aprilia Rs150 and Tuono 150

Both motorcycles borrow styling from their RSV4 and Tuono V4 siblings, but under the skin is a new 150cc, liquid-cooled engine that develops over 18PS and 14Nm.  Their 17-inch wheels are equipped with a 300mm disc up front and a 218mm disc at the back. ABS is standard, and a quick shifter will be available as an accessory.

Renault

Renault Trezor concept

The Renault Trezor is a 2-seater electric sportscar concept that is powered by a Formula-e's 350PS motor. It basically previews the design and technological direction that Renault will be following in the coming years.

Renault Zoe electric concept

The Renault Zoe e-Sport Concept is a fully electric concept car that embodies Renault's commitment to the idea that electric cars can be fun and fast. The sporting credentials of the Renault Zoe e-Sport Concept extend beyond the car's styling and the same striking blue livery as the Renault e.dams team's front-running Formula E single-seaters.

Renault Kwid Superhero editions

The white Renault Kwid sports the Captain America theme

Renault India recently launched the Superhero editions of its most popular hatchback, the Kwid at Rs 4.34 lakh. The special edition Renault Kwid marks the release of the Marvel's latest Avengers film, Infinity War. While there are no changes done to the mechanicals of the Renault Kwid, the hatch does sport two distinct style of graphics that of Iron Man and Captain America.

Suzuki

Suzuki Burgman Street

The Burgman Street borrows styling cues from the 600cc, Burgman, maxi scooter and sits on the same frame that you see on the Access 125. The engine and other mechanicals are the same as well. The Burgman Street gets LED head and tail lamps, long street and large storage space.

Suzuki Intruder 150 Fi

Shortly after launching the Intruder 150, the new Intruder Fi was introduced. It has the same fuel-injected engine that you get in the Gixxer Fi

Suzuki GSX-S750

A new middle-weight motorcycle from Suzuki is all set to take on the likes of the Kawasaki Z900. CKD manufacturing also means the price will be competitive. The 750cc, inline-four engine is regarded as one of the smoothest in the segment

Tata Motors

Tata H5X Concept

The Tata H5X SUV utilises the same platform as Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) Discovery Sport. Tata Motors calls this the Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture (Omega arc). While the architecture is the same as the JLR platform, the Tata H5X has a different mix of materials for its platform

Tata 45X

The Tata 45X Concept is an insight into Tata's new X4 product architecture and the evolution of their Impact design language.

Tata Tiago JTP


The Tiago JTP comes equipped with a 1.2L turbocharged Revotron motor that makes 110PS and generates 150Nm of torque, which is much more than the 85PS/114Nm in regular version. This motor is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Tamo Racemo

The Tamo Racemo is  built on a wholly new modular platform called MOFlex MMS that could in the future also spawn hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs. The engineers at TMETC have managed to massage this 4-cylinder turbocharged, intercooled petrol mill to deliver a 190PS of max power with 210Nm of torque.

Toyota

Toyota Yaris


The Toyota Yaris sedan, aimed at taking on the Hyundai Verna, Honda City and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz when it is launched in the country in April 2018. Powertrain options for the Yaris are expected to be a 1.5l petrol engine and a 1.4l diesel. The 1.5l is expected to be based on the 2NR-FE motor that powers the Etios sedan, albeit with variable valve timing on the intake and exhaust ports. The engine is expected to produce 107PS and 140Nm of torque. The diesel option will be exclusive to India and will borrow the 1.4l D-4D drivetrain from the Corolla, in a similar 90PS/205Nm state of tune.

Yamaha

Yamaha India's star attraction is the all-new, YZF-R15 v3. It has a 155cc, liquid-cooled, four-valve , single-cylinder engine that develops 19.3PS at 10,000rpm. It also gets Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). It is priced at Rs 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom)
