August Sales Report

The month of August recorded varied performance for automotive manufacturers and the reason is the GST correction that will have a clarity after the GST council meeting on September 3 and 4.

  • Maruti Suzuki August sales slipped 0.6%
  • Hyundai Motor India reported 4.2% decline
  • Mahindra & Mahindra recorded a decline of 9%

Four-wheeler

Tata Motors
Tata Motors' total domestic passenger vehicle (PV) division (including EV) recorded a decline of 7 per cent with a sale of 41,001 units as compared to 44,142 units for the same period in the year 2024. And similarly, total PV (including EV) saw a decline of 3 per cent with a sale of 43,315 units when compared to 44,846 units for the same period for the previous year. The electric vehicle (EV) including domestic and international business saw a growth of 44 per cent with a recorded sale of 8,540 unit in comparison with 5,935 unit sales for August 2024.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M)
M&M's total passenger vehicle sales saw a decline of 9 per cent with a sale of 39,399 units compared to 43,277 units for the previous year. The total exports stand at 3,548 units which is a 16 per cent growth when compared to 3,060 units of the last fiscal.

Maruti Suzuki
The domestic passenger vehicle segment saw an 8 per cent decline with a total sales of 1,31,278 units when compared to a recorded sale of 1,43,075 units for the same month in the year 2024.

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL)
HMIL has achieved a monthly domestic sales of 44,001 units and exports of 16,500 units in August 2025. The exports stand at 1,18,840 units during Jan-Aug 2025. And the year-on-year growth for exports for August 2025 stands at 21 per cent. The total monthly sales have been recorded at 60,501 units which includes a domestic sales of 44,001 units and the above mentioned export sales.

Two-wheeler

Bajaj Auto
The total sales stand at 4.17 lakh units in August but the domestic sales reported an 8 per cent dip with 2.32 lakh unit sales. The same period last year recorded a sale of 2.53 lakh units. The total exports have been recorded at 1.85 lakh units as compared to 1.43 lakh units in the last year. That is a 29 per cent growth for the total exports.

TVS Motor
The company has recorded a total sale of 5.09 lakh in August, that is 30 per cent growth when compared to the 3.91 lakh units sold a year ago for the same month. The electric vehicle sales saw an uptick of 1.45 per cent with a sale of 25,138 units. The two-wheeler sales recorded a 30 per cent growth with a sale of 4.90 lakh units and domestic two-wheeler sales saw a growth of 28 per cent with a sale of 3.68 lakh units.

Royal Enfield
The sales for August stand at Rs 1.14 lakh units and that is a  55 per cent growth when compared to the same month last year. The company exported 11,126 motorcycles during the month which records a 39 per cent growth when compared to 8,006 units exported during the same period last year.

The mixed performance of automakers is a result of customers waiting for the correction in GST rates. We can expect a considerable improvement in the market scenario once the GST corrections are in effect and the festive season discounts are announced.
