Audi Q6 e-tron interior teased with front passenger display
The new Audi Q6 e-tron was originally seen in prototype form earlier this year. Audi has been teasing the design of this new model in the e-tron line, and now they have revealed some photographs of the car's interior. The Q6 e-tron is a significant EV for Audi since it is the brand's first vehicle based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) developed in collaboration with Porsche and the new E3 electronics architecture.
The interior has a three-dimensional, high-contrast arrangement that positions components in the foreground or background on purpose, producing a 3D spatial architecture that combines beauty and usability.
The new Audi Q6 E-tron isn't quite there yet, but it is cutting-edge in terms of display technology and passenger interaction. Two screens are nested within a free-standing hub that softly bends on both sides for the driver. While the gauge cluster and other vehicle information are shown immediately in front of the driver, they are linked to a 14.5-inch touch infotainment display that stretches beyond the right side of the steering wheel. "Special ambient lighting" makes the arrangement "appear to float" at night, according to Audi.
Cooling and heating controls have been incorporated into the infotainment screen, removing the need for a separate screen lower down - a trend that many existing Audi cars, including the Q7, Q8, and A8L follow. Unfortunately, it lacks physical controls for climate control, which would have made things easy. However, there is a workaround: voice command-based functioning through the 'Hey Audi' command.
Aside from those two screens, the front passenger has a 10.9-inch screen for radio and navigation settings, as well as the ability to view movies while driving. The passenger display also has a privacy mode that hides the screen from the driver in order to prevent distracting them.
Audi also provides an optional augmented reality (AR) head-up display (HUD) for the Q6 e-tron, which shows the driver a huge, angled picture plane over the windshield, displaying important information such as speed, traffic signs, and aid and navigation indicators.
The Interaction light (IAL) continues the tech feast by enveloping the interior and cockpit in a curved LED strip that serves three key functions: vehicle status, safety (it visualizes the dynamic turn signals), and charging status.
The PPE platform is also believed to assist the Q6 e-tron's practicality, with the electric SUV boasting a large cabin with several storage places and trays. The trunk has 527 litres of storage capacity, which expands to 1530 litres when the back seats are folded down. When it comes to the back seats, they fold down independently in a 40:20:40 ratio. The frunk offers 65 litres of storage space, which is large enough to hold a mobile charging wire and compact travel bags.
We're excited to see the car's exterior without the camouflage; it'll be interesting to see what the final design of the new Audi Q6 e-tron looks like when it's released.
