All-electric Mini Cooper SE launched in India at Rs 47.20 lakh (ex-showroom)

Mini has launched the all-electric Mini Cooper SE in India in one single variant and has priced it at Rs 47.20 lakh (ex-showroom).

Powering the electric Mini is a 32.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack placed in a T-shaped configuration in the floor. The Mini Cooper SE is about 145 kgs heavier than a similar petrol-powered Mini and carries the same luggage space, only ground clearance is increased by 18mm to accommodate the battery pack. The hatch can be charged via Dc fast-charging up to 50 kW which can add 80 per cent to the battery in 35 minutes.

Mini claims a range of range  270 km on a full charge. A total of 187PS and 270 Nm is sent to the front wheels via the electric motor. This gives the Cooper SE a 0 to 100 kmph time of 7.3 seconds and a 150 kmph top speed. There are model-specific drive modes: Sport, Mid, Green or Green+ and two levels of regen can be chosen by the driver.

The Mini Cooper electric also features certain visual enhancements to differentiate from the standard model. There is yellow highlighting on the closed-off new grille and mirror caps, a new logo and more yellow highlights on the 17-inch model-specific efficiency-focused wheels. Standard equipment includes LED headlamps, 2-zone automatic air conditioning with heat pump technology, auxiliary heating, electric parking brake and navigation.

The Mini Cooper SE's main dashboard design is identical to that of the regular Cooper hatchback, but the new 5.5-inch digital instrument cluster, which is the first of its kind for a Mini, is a standout feature. The only other alteration is a new toggle switch for the multi-level brake-regeneration system on the centre console, as well as bright yellow accents throughout the cabin. The cabin and cargo room, according to Mini, are largely unaffected by the new powerplant.

The Mini Cooper Cooper SE comes with an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay compatibility, sports seats, a Harman Kardon audio system, a panoramic glass roof, a Nappa leather steering wheel and tyre pressure monitoring system.

Available in four colours as a CBU in India – White Silver, Midnight Black, Moonwalk Grey and British Racing Green, all 30 units of the Mini Cooper SE were sold during the pre-bookings period. Deliveries and bookings for the next batch are expected to begin in March 2022.
