30,297 Kia Carens MPVs recalled for potential software update
Kia India said on Monday that it is recalling over 30,297 Carens models for a software upgrade. Caren models made between September 2022 and February 2023 are the only units being recalled. The recall effort, according to the business, has begun to investigate any potential fault in the cluster booting process that may cause the cluster to go blank.
Kia has issued a recall because a few units of the Carens MPV's instrument cluster were not correctly booting up and hence went blank. Owners of certain Carens MPVs will be notified and requested to come to the service centre for an examination and, if necessary, a software update.
Previously, in October 2022, approximately 44,174 MPVs were recalled to address a potential issue with the airbag control unit software.
The Kia Carens 2023 is available in five trim levels: Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury, and Luxury Plus.
The highlight of the 2023 Kia Carens is a new 1.5-litre, inline-four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol motor generating 160PS and 253Nm of torque. This new motor is coupled to a six-speed iMT and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. On the other hand, the 1.5-litre turbo-diesel now comes mated to a six-speed iMT instead of a six-speed manual unit. However, it continues with the six-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Further, Kia has carried forward the 1.5-litre, inline-four, naturally aspirated petrol that delivers 115PS and 144Nm of torque. Notably, all the powertrains are now compatible with BS6 phase-2 emission regulations. Meanwhile, the 2023 Carens prices range between Rs 10.45 lakh and Rs 18.95 lakh (ex-showroom).
