VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq rival Citroen C3 Aircross spotted in Sweden

The Citroen C3 Aircross prototype was recently spotted during winter testing in north Sweden. Despite a full body camouflage, the larger dimensions of the upcoming C3 Aircross, especially the stretched wheelbase, can be seen in the spy photographs. While the C3 available in India comes under the hatchback category, this new model will be a crossover SUV, catering to the compact SUV segment.

New Citroen C3: Design and Dimensions
The C3 hatchback sold in India is a new generation model and uses the Common Modular Platform (CMP). On the other hand, the all-new C3 Aircross will be based on an architecture with a longer wheelbase. Not only that, the crossover SUV will also be larger in all dimensions. Notably, the elongated wheelbase and increased ride height of the C3 Aircross can be seen in the spy photos.

While the on-sale C3 hatchback measures 3,981mm in length, the upcoming C3 Aircross is rumoured to be as long as Volkswagen Taigun or Skoda Kushaq. The Kushaq is 4,225mm long, while the Taigun measures 4,221mm.

Regarding the exterior, the C3 Aircross is expected to bear a new design language but could retain the brand's signature styling cues. The crossover SUV may come with a split LED headlight setup, chunky cladding, flap-type door handles, 16- or 17-inch alloy wheels, and LED taillights.

New Citroen C3: Interior
The most significant change in the upcoming C3 Aircross is likely to be in the form of additional space thanks to the stretched wheelbase. With this, Citroen would be able to accommodate a third row in the rear to make the crossover SUV a seven-seat model. Speaking of which, the brand has already confirmed that it is developing a seven-seat version of the C3 hatchback for emerging automotive markets.

Further, the interior is expected to receive a fresh look and its design could draw inspiration from Citroen's latest C4. Other features may include a digital instrument cluster, a sizable touchscreen infotainment system, connected car features, fast charging USB Type-C or Type-A ports, a wireless charging pad, an electric sunroof, an engine start/stop switch, and a multifunction steering wheel, among others.

New long wheelbase Citroen C3: Powertrain
Since the model is still under development, the details about the powertrain are unavailable at the moment. However, it is expected to get a new turbocharged petrol engine paired with a manual and automatic transmission. This motor is believed to be equipped with mild hybrid functionality. Meanwhile, Citroen might also bring a plug-in hybrid version of the new C3 for the European market.
