Chinese automaker BYD (Build Your Dreams) has announced that its new all-electric Seal will be introduced in India on 5 March, 2024. The electric sedan made its first public debut in the country at the Auto Expo 2023. In fact, the Seal has already been spotted testing, while some BYD dealerships have also opened unofficial bookings. That being said, it will be the third offering from the brand in the market after the e6 and Atto 3.

BYD Seal EV: Design

The Seal EV is a modern-day electric sedan featuring several unique design elements and slanting roofline. This design idea, known as "ocean aesthetics," is consistent with BYD's aim for its electric car series.

It utilises the e-platform 3.0 and CTB (cell-to-body) technology, where the battery pack is incorporated into the chassis. The EV measures 4,800mm in length, 1,875mm in width, and 1,460mm in height. Plus, it has a wheelbase of 2,920mm. The boot capacity stands at 400 litres, while the front trunk has a capacity of 50 litres.

BYD Seal EV: Interior

Inside, there is a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch all-digital instrument cluster, and a heads-up display. The centre console houses a gear selector, two wireless charging pads, and other switches to control various functions. BYD has also given it a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, connected car tech, 360deg camera, and ADAS.

BYD Seal: Range, battery, & power output

Powering the Seal are two battery packs: 61.4kWh and 82.5kWh. The former can be paired with both single- and dual-motor setups, while the latter is exclusively available with an all-wheel-drive configuration. In its top-spec variant with the large battery pack, the Seal EV offers a claimed range of up to 700km on a full charge. Its dual-motor setup produces 530PS, allowing to reach 100kmph in 3.8 seconds.

BYD Seal EV: Pricing & rivals

We expect the new BYD Seal EV to be priced between Rs 55 lakh and 65 lakh. Upon launch, it will compete against the BMW i4 (Rs 72.50-77.50 lakh), Hyundai Ioniq 5 (Rs 46.05 lakh), and Kia EV6 (Rs 60.95-65.95 lakh). All prices are ex-showroom.
