2023 Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLB unveiled

After revealing the new GLE and GLE Coupe, followed by the refreshed GLC and GLC Coupe, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the 2023 GLA and GLB SUVs with an updated design, fresh colours inside and out, new MBUX, and mild-hybrid powertrains.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLB: Design

The most significant changes to the 2023 GLA and GLB models come in the form of a redesigned face, where the grille, headlight elements, and bumper are all new, especially the headlight styling elements are reminiscent of the newer Mercedes-Benz cars. Additionally, the refreshed 2023 GLA and GLB get a new rear bumper, dual tailpipes, and redesigned taillight cluster. The wheel arch cladding in the GLA also bears the same colour as the body's exterior instead of black plastic. On top of that, the 2023 GLA and GLB also gain a new Spectral Blue Metallic paint job and four new sets of wheels. The 17-inch wheels are standard in the base trim, while the 18- to 20-inch wheels are optional extras.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLB: Interior

While the design of the interior remains identical to the previous models, the 2023 GLA and GLB come with a new leather-wrapped steering wheel and "latest generation" MBUX infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto coming soon, likely via an OTA. In some western markets, a seven-inch driver display and a 10-25-inch touchscreen infotainment system are now standard, whereas both 10.25-inch units are offered as optional extras. With this update, the 2023 GLA and GLB lose the classic MBUX trackpad and switches similar to the new C-Class and S-Class.

Apart from that, the refreshed SUVs feature an additional USB Type-C port. The firm says that it has also increased USB charging power, and all USB ports are now illuminated.

Furthermore, Mercedes has given the 2023 GLA and GLB comfort seats as standard. The seats get Artico artificial leather and black fabric upholstery with 3D embossing. The SUVs feature a variety of interior shades, such as black and macchiato beige, including new additions, namely segegrey, bahia brown, and red pepper with black.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLB: Features

Mercedes-Benz has bestowed the updated 2023 GLA and GLB with a handful of standard features, such as LED headlights. On the other hand, the high beam assist, a reverse parking camera, and a USB package are already available as standard. Other features have been retained, but some are still not offered free of charge.

2023 Mercedes-Benz GLA and GLB: Powertrain

First up, the 2023 GLA is powered by four petrol and four diesel engine options mated to a seven- or eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Above all, all four petrol engines now feature 48-volt mild-hybrid functionality. The GLA is also offered with a plug-in hybrid version, which gets an updated electric motor with an increased power output of 5kW. Charging options for the 2023 GLA PHEV include a 3.7kW as standard, while customers can opt for optional 11kW AC charging. The SUV also supports 22kW DC charging. This version promises a claimed EV-only range between 62km to 70km, according to WLTP preliminary.

Similarly. the 2023 GLB, too, comes with four petrol and four diesel engine options. Transmission options include a seven-speed DCT automatic or an eight-speed DCT automatic. Notably, its petrol units now gain mild-hybrid assistance. Meanwhile, both 2023 GLA and GLB can be had with 4Matic all-wheel drive in their corresponding top-spec petrol and diesel versions.
