2023 BMW S1000RR unveiled
BMW has pulled the covers off the 2023 BMW S1000RR supersport and the list of updates for this MY2023 bike is quite substantial. Starting with the looks, the bike's basic design remains fairly the same as before, aside from some new standard-fit winglets on the front fairing, courtesy of the racy M1000RR. These extra bits up front are said to give the bike about 10kg of additional downforce, while the bigger windscreen and lighter, subtly re-styled rear end are all aimed at bettering performance.
The biggest inclusion with the MY2023 BMW S1000RR comes in the form of its electronics suite, and in particular, the Slide Control function. This is basically a clever traction control package which allows the rider to select two pre-set drift angles, and up to those angles, the bike will allow the rear wheel to slide and drift, and bring things back in line by adjusting the power when it detects highside alert. There's even a Slide Assist feature to help you trail brake into corners. The suspension too has been revised and the bike now comes with a hill hold, USB charging port, and a pitlane limiter as well.
On the engine front, BMW hasn't tinkered much with its inline four-cylinder. It puts down a healthy 208PS at 13,000 rpm which is a slight bump up from the previous MY bike (205PS)- the result of the larger intake ports borrowed from the M1000RR. The bike still gets the ShiftCam variable valve timing tech which ensures that you get a smooth spread of power across the band. Also, the rear sprocket goes up one tooth, from 45 teeth to 46.
Other notable changes come in the form of the updated aluminium twin-spar 'Flex Frame,' which houses the liquid-cooled motor as a stressed member, and the swingarm which now gets an adjustable pivot for customisable ride height settings.
After previously seeing how BM can be in bringing motorcycles that have launched abroad, to India, we wouldn't be surprised if the Bavarian brand to have prices out for all trims of the 2023 S1000RR for the Indian very soon.
