A leaked photo suggests that Maruti Suzuki has begun production of the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift. The heavily revamped hatchback is set to be the first of a full model revamp by the country's largest carmaker and will be joined by updated versions of the Ertiga as well as a new range of SUVs over the next couple of years. The Baleno facelift is being manufactured at Maruti's Gujarat facility and is expected to launch in India by February 2022.

The interiors of the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno haven't been seen but expect to see a reworked dashboard with a new arrangement for the AC vents and a new set of switchgear for the centre console. The instrument may also be tweaked as should the steering wheel.

An expanded list of features is to be expected too. This should be highlighted by a larger touchscreen infotainment possibly with wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay, digital instrumentation, cruise control, auto headlamps and wipers and some form of connected car services.

Earlier photos show that the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift has ditched the earlier car's simple design for a more aggressive face. The grille has been slimmed and widened with a new honeycomb pattern, and extends in a Y-shape right up to the headlamps. The headlamps themselves have been reprofiled to a slimmer Upward swept look and feature LED lighting in a two-pot arrangement. Also noticeably, the bonnet has been reworked by being pushed back and widened while new body lines have been added here too. The segmented air dam of the earlier can has now been replaced by a wider, fuller one in the reshaped bumpers as well.

The reworked Baleno should continue to remain mechanically identical to the current hatchback. Maruti Suzuki offers the Baleno with a 1.2-litre K12B petrol engine that puts out 83PS and 113 Nm. A different 1.2-litre Dualjet motor makes 90PS and 113 Nm. Both engines pair with a five-speed manual while a CVT is on offer with the less powerful motor.
