2022 Mahindra Scorpio officially revealed ahead of June 27 launch, to be named Scorpio-N
Mahindra has now revealed official images of the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio, ahead of its launch on June 27. The new-gen SUV will now be named the Mahindra Scorpio N since the current Scorpio will continue to be sold alongside it, renamed the Scorpio Classic.
2022 Mahindra Scorpio-N exterior revealed
The official images show that the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio N will stay true to what was recently seen in an online leak. The Scorpio N will continue with the blocky, squared-off theme of previous generations of the SUV, but significantly modernized. So the rectangular headlamps cluster now has a two-part LED cluster while the grille seems to have been enlarged with horizontal slats, although the chrome fangs remain. The bumper gets a more cohesive three-part look with a large air dam and squarish fog lamp clusters but with more intricate detailing via LED DRLs.
The 2022 Scorpio-N seems to have grown in size quite a bit and still continues with its tall stance. The side profile seems to be more chiselled with some prominent surfacing and a noticeable kink in the window line along the second row. There are still large windows and dual-tone alloy wheels. The more prominent surfacing continues to the rear, where there's now some contouring below the rear windscreen. The typical vertical Scorpio taillamps now get some Volvo-like detailing and LEd light signatures while the bumper carries a similarly aggressive look of the front.
2022 Mahindra Scorpio-N interior, features
While official images of the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio-N's interiors aren't out yet, camouflaged spy images have shown the interiors of the Mahindra Scorpio-N will be fully reworked, much like the outside. There's heavy use of gloss black and mild chrome highlights. The layout itself is more contemporary now with the large vertical air vents on either side of the new infotainment screen. The screen could be an 8-inch unit and will feature Android Auto/Apple Carplay connectivity, along with some form of connected tech. Also seen here is an automatic climate control system and safety systems like traction control.
There is a new steering wheel as well with a three-spoke design and a large bank of switches while the instrument cluster features a mix of analogue dials as well as a large MID. Other expected features are a sunroof, auto headlamps and wipers, cruise control, connected-tech, branded audio and LED lighting.
2022 Mahindra Scorpio-N engine, specifications
The new Mahindra Scorpio-N is larger than the SUV it replaces, although it should feature the new hydroformed Gen 3 ladder-frame chassis that first debuted on the Thar. Engine options should be similar to the Thar and the XUV700 as well with the 2.0-litre mStallion turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine, with Mahindra confirming that petrol and diesel engines will be available.
Power outputs should be bumped up over the Thar to around 160-170PS for the petrol and 150 to 160PS for the diesel. There should be a six-speed manual and a six-speed torque-converter automatic option for both. Mahindra has also confirmed that the 2022 Scorpio-N will get a rugged 4x4 system which should come with a low range function and off-road modes.
2022 Mahindra Scorpio-N launch date, expected prices
Prices of the 2021 Mahindra Scorpio should be significantly higher than that of the current model, given the larger size and longer features list. The older model continuing alongside is another factor. Prices should start from around Rs 13 lakh and go up around Rs 17 lakh ex-showroom.
