The 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan 5-seater was revealed last year and it has now been spotted testing in India wearing an updated styling comprising of pulled back headlights with a sharper outline and more prominent daytime running lights and LED projector-beam lamps and a new front bumper with a sportier air intake design. The rear end gets mildly revised detailing for the taillights, reprofiled bumper design and a new spaced lettering format for the Tiguan badging. The side profile continues to have the clean, straight lines, but the alloys don a different design.

On the inside is a new touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay, a wireless charging pad and fully-digital instrumentation. The seating remains more or less similar to the erstwhile Tiguan 5-seater variant.

The model makes a comeback with a 2.0 TSI capable of delivering 190PS, similar to the engine seen in the larger Tiguan AllSpace. It will come with the 7-speed DSG automatic with paddle shifters, mated to VW's 4MOTION all-wheel-drive. The new Tiguan 5-seater is likely to be assembled locally this time around to give it a cost advantage. We hear that a Tiguan base variant with a front-wheel-driven, 150PS 1.5 TSI is also being considered for India. With an expected on-road price tag of Rs 28-32 lakh, it will slot under the Tiguan AllSpace 2.0 TSI and take on the likes of the upcoming Citroën C5 Aircross and the updated Hyundai Tucson. How it fares against that competition (without a diesel engine this time around) remains to be seen.
