Lamborghini has launched its most track-focused car yet in India with the Lamborghini Hurancan STO, priced at Rs 4.99 crore ex-showroom before options. The STO stands for Super Trofeo Omologata, pointing to this Huracan's road-homologated stature.

The heavy aerodynamic and bodywork changes on the Huracan STO have given it the most downforce in its class, a 53 per cent increase over the standard Huracan. The STO is also 37 per cent more aero-efficient than the base car. The Huracan STO has also been made much lighter now for improved track performance, 75 per cent of its exterior panels are now carbon-fibre. A new carbon fibre 'sandwich' technique derived from the aerospace industry was used on the STO's rear fender, leading to same structural integrity but with 25 per cent less material being used. Combined with the 20 per cent lighter windscreen and magnesium wheels, the Huracan STO weighs 43 kgs less than the Huracan Perfomante at 1,339 kg.

The aerodynamic upgrades over the standard Huracan start with the single-piece front section that combines the bonnet, bumper and fenders. This is meant to save weight and allow for easier access to components. Also incorporated into this element are new air ducts on the bonnet that improve cooling and downforce. A new front splitter directs more air to the new undersection and onto the new rear diffuser. The louvres on the fender ease pressure in the wheel wells and improve downforce while the new design also reduces drag. At the rear, there is a new fender with a NACA duct. Aside from reducing drag and increasing rear downforce, this duct also allows 30 per cent more air to enter the engine. Other noteworthy bodywork upgrades along the theme of lowered drag and improved downforce are the new engine cover with dedicated air deflectors and a shark fin element that improves cornering stability. A manually adjustable single-piece two-element rear wing helps here too.

The Huracan STO's 5.2-litre N/A V10 makes 640PS and 565 Nm at 6,500 rpm but with race-focused calibration. There is an increased wheel track, stiffer suspension bushing, new anti-roll bars and the second iteration of Lamborgini's magnetically controlled dampers. The result is that the STO can do 0 to 100 in 3.0s, 0 to 200 in 9.0s and reach a 310 kmph top-speed. The Anima drive system offers three new modes - the default STO mode for road use, the Trofeo mode for track use and the Pioggia rain mode. The CCM-R brakes from Brembo are 60 per cent more stress-resistant, offer 25 per cent more braking force and stop the car 7 per cent quicker.

The interiors of the Huracan STO's have been redone in keeping with its focus on weight-saving and performance. The seats, door panels and even the floor-mats are carbon-fibre with extensive Alcantara highlighting and fabric door straps. A titanium alloy safety arch from Akrapovic, four-point harnesses and new graphic and track telemetry functions are other big highlights. Of course, Lamborghini's Ad Personam service is also available for further customisation.
