2016 Paris Motor Show: 2017 Suzuki S-Cross facelift revealed

Suzuki has revealed the facelifted S-Cross ahead of its Paris Motor Show debut. The revised S-Cross gets styling updates, refreshed engine line-up and extra features.

The major update the facelift gets is upright front-end styling with slightly higher ground clearance at 180mm versus 165mm. It also gets new headlamps with a sharper look. In addition, the facelift comes with newly designed LED rear combination lamps.

The 1.6-litre petrol engine from the older S-Cross has been replaced by a turbocharged 1.0-litre 3-cylinder and a 1.4-litre 4-cylinder Boosterjet unit. The 1.0-litre unit, which is also Direct Injection turbocharged (DITC), generates 111PS of power and 170Nm of torque available from 2,000rpm to 3,500rpm. "The 1.0-litre engine," says the company, "offers nine per cent more torque than the outgoing 1.6-litre petrol together with 11 per cent lower CO2 emissions and 10 per cent improved combined fuel consumption."

The 1.4-litre Boosterjet engine generates 140PS of power and 220Nm of torque available from 1,500rpm, 41 per cent more than the older 1.6-litre engine. Suzuki claims that the 1.4-litre engine does a 0-100kmph in 10.2 seconds (both manual and automatic transmissions) and has a maximum speed of 200kmph.

The facelift S-Cross will come with three variants - SZ4, SZ-T and SZ5. The SZ4 model gets seven airbags and ESP as standard, as well as 16-inch alloy wheels, cruise control with speed limiter, air conditioning, heated door mirrors, black protective skid plates and black wheel arch extensions. The SZ-T model, introduced primarily for fleet users, features 17-inch alloys, a rear parking camera with front and rear parking sensors, dual-zone air conditioning and front fog lights.

The range-topping SZ5 model comes equipped with Radar Brake Support (RBS), leather seat upholstery, heated front seats, double sliding panoramic sunroof and aluminium roof rails. All S-Cross models feature an 'engine auto start-stop system' that shuts down the engine when the car is stationary.

In India, the S-Cross facelift is expected to continue with the same set of engines - a 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre diesel engines. Maruti Suzuki is also said to be working on a new petrol engine. It could most likely be the Boosterjet engine from the upcoming Baleno RS. The facelifted S-Cross goes on sale in the UK on October 17. It is expected to go on sale here sometime next year.
