2016 Geneva Motor Show: Abarth 124 Spider showcased
If the standard Fiat 124 Spider didn't seem tempting enough for you, then the Abarth 124 Spider just might do the trick. This car is essentially the Fiat 124 Spider that has been reworked by the Italian manufacturer's Abarth division. Powering the Abarth 124 Spider is still a 1.4-litre turbo-charged petrol engine that makes around 250Nm, but it now produces 170PS, which is 10PS more than the Fiat 124 Spider. The Abarth 124 Spider can be optioned with either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission and the car gets Brembo brakes, Bilstein dampers and a Record Monza exhaust as standard.
The Abarth 124 Spider's steering is electronically assisted, but if needed, this system along with most other assistance systems can be switched off, "to experience the perfect mechanical balance and linear engine response, the trademarks of a genuine rear-wheel drive sportscar". Fiat claims that the Abarth 124 Spider will go from 0-100kmph in 6.8 seconds, and that it has a top speed of 230kmph.
On the outside, the Abarth 124 Spider gets a full aero kit with larger air vents, new 17-inch alloy wheels, quad exhausts and a matte black hood and boot lid. The interior meanwhile, gets a small-diameter steering wheel, aluminium pedals and a short gear lever.
