2015 Indian Scout image gallery

Indian Motorcycles showed their second line of motorcycles at Sturgis, bringing back the hallowed Scout name for the all-new 100PS, 253kg motorcycle. We expect Indian India to bring the motorcycle to our shores and here, then, is a close look at the newest Indian on the block.

The Indian (right) is the top model in the Indian line-up. The new Scout (left) now takes up position as the entry-range of Indian Motorcycles offering a significantly different proposition from the retro-chief

The Scout is significantly smaller and lighter than the Chief and given the history of the name, this is not unexpected. Scouts were about performance, after all

The design is great to look at, and we hear it's better in the flesh than in the images. The detail we do not like is the rear fender which appears flat-sided and almost under-designed in the images

The new engine is a liquid-cooled, 8 valve, DOHC V-twin that claims to make 100PS at 8,100rpm and 98Nm at 5,900rpm. Note that the peak power is at 8,100rpm, which means this isn't a traditional low-revving cruiser engine in nature

Here is a cutaway detail of the engine. You can clearly see the DOHC layout as well as two of the four valves above the piston. The engine is a relatively high compression unit at 9.5:1 by cruiser standards and boasts closed-loop fuel injection

The external engine details are pretty cool with lots of detail work and recessed surfaces making the engine not only a significant part of the overall motorcycle design but also visually a very strong focus point of the motorcycle

The Indian head logo is a classic!

The Scout also uses an aluminium frame just like the Chief line does that brings it weight savings - Indian says it is the lightest motorcycle in its class

Either that's a very tall model or that's a very small bike. The Scout, with its 100PS and lightest in class position, claims to be a high-revving performance cruiser. We cannot wait to get our hands on one!

We do love the sculpting on the Scout but we're a bit scared of how hard it is going to be to keep clean during our Indian monsoon

The Scout claims to have a seat height of just over two feet off the ground at 25.3 inches. This means getting your feet down should be easy as pie and combine that with light weight and you get a motorcycle that almost anyone can ride

The press images show two kinds of stacked exhausts if you look carefully. Some of the images above  show a straight cylindrical exhaust while this one sports these curved exhausts

The simple single pod instrument is just a speedometer and there is no rev counter on the Scout

Expect Indian Motorcycles India to announce Indian launch and sales plans soon. The Scout is definitely coming to India. Considered it's relatively affordable at its $10,999 starting price in the US, our duties and Indian's premium positioning will make the Scout expensive here
