Mahindra has just launched the Vibe, which is its first notchback. The car looks like a hatch back but in reality it's a notchback with a fixed rear windscreen. Essentially a chopped Verito, the Vibe retains the same wheelbase. This also means that the Verito's USP of spacious interiors are carried over. In fact, the interiors are identical. Knee room and shoulder room are identical, which translates to comfortable seating for three at the rear. Mahindra quotes 330 litres of boot space making it quite spacious.

The engine and gearbox are also a straight lift from the Verito which means you get the proven Renault K9K 1.5 litre engine. This is the eight-valve version and there's 65PS/160Nm on tap. Going by the Verito, expect a linear power delivery and easy drivability. Expect great efficiency – Mahindra quotes an ARAI figure of 20.8 kmpl. No petrol engine is on offer for the moment.

The Verito Vibe  has been priced between Rs 5.63 lakh and Rs 6.49 lakh ex-showroom, Mumbai.
