Spec comparo: Datsun redi-Go vs Renault Kwid vs Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 vs Hyundai Eon
Datsun has launched the redi-Go at Rs 2.49 lakh (ex-Mumbai). The Datsun redi-Go is the new entry-level hatchback on the block and based on the CMF-A platform, which is shared by Nissan and Renault. Mechanically, the Datsun redi-Go is identical to the Renault Kwid, sharing the same engine, transmission and chassis. The Datsun redi-Go will be competing with other entry-level hatchbacks like the Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon. Let's take a look at how it compares to them on paper.
The Datsun redi-Go comes equipped with a 799cc 3-cylinder petrol engine producing 54PS at 5,678rpm and 72Nm of torque at 4,386rpm. This is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission with power being sent to the front wheels. Mentioning the Renault Kwid would be redundant as it comes with the same engine and transmission. The Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 gets a 796cc 3-cylinder engine cranking out 48PS and 69Nm of torque, making it the weakest in this comparison. The Hyundai Eon, on the other hand, gets the strongest engine with an 814cc petrol motor producing 56PS and 74.5Nm of torque.
DimensionsAfter taking a look at each hatchback's dimensions, the Renault Kwid is seen to be the longest at 3,679mm as well as the widest at 1,579mm. This translates into a more roomy interior, and hence more comfortable passengers. The Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 is at the other end of the spectrum when it comes to length and width in this comparsion, at 3,395mm and 1,515mm, respectively. The Datsun redi-Go is slightly smaller than the Kwid at 3,429mm long and 1,560mm wide. The Hyundai Eon is around the same size as that of the redi-Go.
Fuel economyDatsun claims an overall efficiency of 25.17kmpl for the redi-Go, but we expect the real world figures would be a tad less (around 19.4kmpl would be a safe bet). The Renault Kwid gave us 19.4kmpl in our review (the source of our safe bet). The Hyundai Eon managed a 17.77kmpl figure when we tested it, while the Alto 800 was just a smidge under at 17.72kmpl.
PriceWhile Datsun hasn't given the exact price list for the redi-GO, we've been told that the prices will vary between Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 3.5 lakh. This would make the Datsun redi-GO the cheapest car in this spec comparison. The Renault Kwid is a more premium offering at Rs 3.99 lakh, while the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 is priced at Rs 3.69 lakh.
