Volvo Car India reports 33 per cent growth in the first half of 2023

Volvo Car India has registered a growth of 33 per cent in the first half of 2023, delivering 1,089 units between January to June compared to 818 units in the same period of the previous year. The XC60 remained the single highest-selling model for the carmaker, reporting a 35 per cent growth, with 376 sold in the first half. Whereas, the locally assembled XC40 Recharge accounted for a 27 per cent of the overall sales, with 289 deliveries in between January and June this year.

Volvo Car global sales

In terms of global sales, Volvo sold 3,41,691 units in the first six months of the year, reporting a 17 per cent growth as against the corresponding period of last year. On the other hand, it registered a sales of 66,397 units at 33 per cent growth in June 2023. The XC60 was the top-selling model in June, followed by the XC40 and XC90.

Further, the sales of its Recharge range of electric or PHEV models rose by 129 per cent in the previous month. These vehicles accounted for 37 per cent of the total global sales. In fact, the share of all-electric cars stood at 14 per cent.

Volvo C40 Recharge in India

Volvo recently introduced yet another electric vehicle (EV) in India, the C40 Recharge. Like the XC40 Recharge, the firm will also assemble the SUV coupe at its Hoskote facility near Bangalore, Karnataka. While the carmaker will open its order books for the C40 Recharge in August, the deliveries are scheduled to commence in September.

Commenting on the occasion, Jyoti Malhotra, MD, Volvo Car India, said, "The first half has been highly successful, with the XC40 Recharge representing 27 per cent of the sales volume. The impressive 33 per cent growth reaffirms the positive feedback from customers regarding our luxurious mobility options and their strong trust in the Volvo brand. The performance in the first half serves as a promising indicator, instilling confidence that the upcoming months will yield even better outcomes. With the upcoming launch of our Born Electric model C40 Recharge in August, we aim to surpass our best-ever year."
