Upcoming MG Gloster SUV teased ahead of launch, to get advanced driver aids
MG Motor India has released a new teaser for the MG Gloster, ahead of its launch during the festive season. The SUV had been shown at the 2020 Auto Expo, but no details of its interiors and features were available. The big reveal with this teaser is that the Gloster will come with a slew of possibly radar-based driver assistance systems.
The teaser showcases an advanced self-parking feature, an adaptive cruise control system for use in traffic and an automatic emergency braking feature. The Maxus D90, which the MG Gloster is derived from, can be had internationally with adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane-keeping assistance (LKA), lane departure warning (LDW) and forward collision warning. We suspect these are the features being showcased here.
Additionally, we expect this to be complemented by safety tech like a tire pressure monitoring system, 360-degree cameras, and a blind-spot assistance system. The Australia-spec LDV D90, same as the Maxus, has received a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.
A 2.0-litre turbo petrol with 225PS and 350Nm is offered elsewhere with the D90 but we think MG will bring it to India with a new diesel engine. This is expected to be an in-house developed unit derived from the FCA Multijet diesel as seen on the Hector. This motor will put out 218PS and 480Nm and come paired with an 8-speed automatic.
In terms of dimensions, the MG Gloster measures 5,005mm in length, 1,932mm in width and 1,875mm in height. Also, the wheelbase measures 2,950mm. This makes it larger than SUVs like the Toyota Land Cruiser and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, MG is expected to price the Gloster very aggressively, between Rs 40-45 lakh. This will make it a bit more pricey than the Fortuner and Endeavour
