Toyota Glanza sales almost reach 4,000 unit mark in two months

The Toyota Glanza has made quite an impact in the short time that it's been on sale. The hatchback was launched on June 6, with dealer dispatches beginning in May 2019.

Maruti Suzuki, which makes the Glanza for Toyota, shipped 2,142 units of the hatchback in May. This was most likely to meet the pre-launch orders. Further, in June 2019, this figure stood at 1,832 units. This makes the Toyota Glanza the third-highest selling premium hatchback in the country. Its identical twin, the Baleno is quite a way ahead with 15,176 units sold just in May, while the Hyundai elite i20 sold 8,958 units in that month. But both these cars have witnessed a significant slowdown in sales, 22 and 16 per cent respectively, YoY.

The Glanza's pricing, warranty and variant mix seem to be its strong points. Prices for the Glanza start at Rs Rs 7.21 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. This is the price of the base G MT variant which also happens to be the only one equipped with the new 1.2-litre Dualjet BSVI motor with its 90PS/113 Nm. This is Rs 65,000 cheaper than the equivalent Baleno in its Zeta trim. The other variants are the G CVT, V and V CVT. These are identically priced to their Baleno alternatives. It should be noted though that these are introductory prices, so expect an increase soon. These also happens to be the more popular variants of the Baleno. Both get identical equipment.

Yup, no cruise control. Nor in the base or the more premium grade

The Baleno's party trick is its more appealing warranty coverage. The Toyota comes with a three year/1,00,000 kilometre standard warranty, against the Maruti's two year/40,000 kilometre package. Both are extendable, however.
