Top 5 best selling cars for August 2021

The pandemic took a huge toll on vehicle sales for over months now. Now that the economy has started to pick up, sales have been rising gently and steadily. As sales statistics rise up again, it appears that the worst is behind us and Maruti Suzuki has quite obviously dominated the sales and there's no hiding that. Maruti Suzuki easily finds itself on this list as the country's leading vehicle brand in terms of sales volume.

Maruti Suzuki Swift

The Maruti Suzuki Swift has been around the Indian market for quite some time now. Its sporty looks and fun yet reliable engine make up for the perfect hatchback without being too heavy on your wallet. Which is one of the reasons why Maruti Suzuki has sold over 12,483 Swifts in August 2021. It comes with a good list of features as well like projector headlights, LED DRLs, 15-inch precision-cut alloy wheels, a coloured 4.2-inch TFT display cruise control, idle start-stop function, and key synchronised auto-foldable ORVMs.

The 1.2-litre K12 series Dual Jet Dual VVT engine puts out 90PS and 113 Nm of torque. When coupled with the AMT gearbox, the engine will return a fuel economy of 23.20 kmpl with a manual transmission and 23.76 kmpl with an AMT unit. The Swift range starts at Rs 5.85 lakh.

Hyundai Creta

It's no news that the Hyundai Creta is a famous name around the Indian automobile market. Selling 12,597 Creta's in August 2021, this is the only car on the list not from the Maruti Suzuki family. Its striking design may not be for everyone but it does have a smart outlook to it. Features like boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, LED Head Lamps, a panoramic sunroof, LED headlamps, enhanced Bluelink 1.5 and so much more, the Creta has established itself very well in the country.

The 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 112PS and 144 Nm of torque and is available with either a CVT or a six-speed manual transmission. The more interesting petrol engine is a 1.4-litre Turbo GDi with 138PS 242 Nm of torque and just a seven-speed DCT transmission. There is also a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 113PS 250 Nm of torque and is available with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The Hyundai Creta starts at Rs 10.16 lakh onwards.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

The next and only other SUV on this list is the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Maruti Suzuki has managed to sell 12,906 Vitara Brezza's in August 2021. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza comes included with projector headlamps with LED DRLs, a new grille, new 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, LED tail-lights, leather-wrapped steering wheel, auto-dimming IRVM and the SmartPlay infotainment system.

Offered with just a petrol engine, the 1.5-litre K-Series engine in the Maruti Vitara Brezza generates 104PS and 138 Nm of torque. It comes with a five-speed manual transmission and a Smart Hybrid technology automatic transmission. The Vitara Brezza is priced from Rs 7.61 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Alto

A small city car by the name of Maruti Suzuki Alto has been in the market for a very long time. It may be a very small vehicle but that doesn't stop its sales. Maruti Suzuki has sold 13,236 Maruti Suzuki Alto's in August 2021. A 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, reverse parking sensors, front and rear bottle holder, power windows, remote keyless entry, and front dual airbags are the list of features that are available on the Alto.

In its petrol variant, the Maruti Suzuki Alto is powered by a 0.8-litre petrol engine that generates 48PS and 69 Nm of torque. The same motor produces 40PS and 60Nm of torque when converted to CNG mode. The Alto is the cheapest vehicle on this list with a starting price of Rs 3.15 lakh.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno

Topping the list as the best selling car for August 2021 is the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Having sold 15,646 Baleno's, Maruti Suzuki didn't just beat out the competition but every other car by quite the margin. The highlights of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno include a new front bumper, LED headlamps, new fog lights, new alloy wheels, LED taillights, a black and blue interior theme, seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Maruti's SmartPlay Studio app, steering-mounted controls, engine start-stop button, automatic climate control and a height-adjustable driver seat. It's pretty clear to see why the Baleno tops the charts now.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine with two options, normal and dual-jet. The former generates 83PS and 113 Nm of torque, while the latter generates 90PS and 113Nm of torque thanks to the brand's clever hybrid technology. A five-speed manual transmission and a CVT transmission are available for these engines. Prices for the Baleno start at Rs 5.99 lakh.
