Tokyo Motor Show 2017: Kawasaki Ninja 400 unveiled

Kawasaki, Japanese bike maker, just took the wraps off its latest mid-sized motorcycle, the Kawasaki Ninja 400 at the Tokyo Motor Show 2017 in Japan. The 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 400 is set to replace the Kawasaki Ninja 300 in international markets including India. When it is launched here, the Kawasaki Ninja 400 with its larger 399cc parallel twin engine, looks set to take on competition including the KTM RC390, the Yamaha YZF-R3, BMW G 310 R, Benelli 302R and others. Kawasaki claims the that new Ninja 400 offers improved low-end torque while retaining a smooth throttle response. The Ninja 400 also gets an assist-and-slipper clutch to make clutch lever 20 per cent lighter to pull. The Kawasaki Ninja 400 gets new bodywork inspired by its larger siblings as well as weight saving over its predecessor.

The Ninja 400 is 6kg lighter than the Kawasaki Ninja 300, at 168kg (wet). The 399cc parallel twin motor produces 45.6PS / 38Nm, a significant upgrade from the Ninja 300. It also features a 310mm front disc brake with Nissin calipers and ABS. On the styling front, the 400 features large-volume bodywork inspired from the flagship Ninja H2, which makes it look substantially larger, wider than its predecessor, also offers good wind protection as per the company.

A seat height of 786mm makes it very accessible. Given its wider seat and better wind protection, the Ninja 400 may occupy the space of a middleweight sports tourer in India. We had earlier reported that the Ninja 400 could be unveiled at EICMA 2017 next month. Now begins the wait for the 400 to reach India.
