The Hybrid battle - Renault Duster vs Maruti Suzuki Victoris vs Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder

With the Renault Duster back in the mix of the highly competitive SUV battle and a strong hybrid offering to be rolled in soon to the portfolio, we have to see what the Renault Duster brings to the table and who are the rivals challenging the new comer.

Powertrain
Let's start with the heart of the matter, the Renault Duster will be offered with a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine coupled to a 1.4 kWh battery pack and an 8-speed DHT gearbox with two motors. A generator pushing 20 PS and a 49 PS motor, combined output stands at 160 PS and 172 Nm of peak torque.

The Maruti Suzuki Victoris is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine coupled to an e-motor pushing 116 PS and 141 Nm of peak torque. This engine comes mated to an e-CVT gearbox. The engine works in tandem with a lithium-ion battery pack with a voltage of 177.6 V. The same setup is used in the Toyota Victoris as well.

In terms of dimensions, the Duster is wider and taller than its competitors with a longer wheelbase and 2 mm more ground clearance. The overall length is lesser when compared to the Victoris and the Hyryder.

Features
The feature list is long for all the SUVs, key highlights for the Duster includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Other highlights include wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, a wireless charger, panoramic sunroof and powered front seats with ventilation.

The Maruti Suzuki Victoris comes equipped with 10.25-inch instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Infinity sound system with 8 speakers that work with Dolby Atmos Spatial sound experience, a PM2.5 filter, a panoramic sunroof, and ambient lighting to name a few.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder offers a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 4-speaker Arkamys sound system, ambient lighting, head-up display, wireless phone charger, panoramic roof, cruise control, paddle shifters, ventilated seats, keyless entry, push start/stop button, auto air conditioner, and a PM 2.5 air filter to name a few.

Safety
The safety suite on the Duster comprises of six airbags as standard, disc brakes on all four wheels and an electronic parking brake. Additional features include a 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring system and parking sensors at both ends. Notably, this is the first Renault model in India to offer Level 2 ADAS features.

Maruti Suzuki Victoris offers 360-degree HD camera, TPMS, traction control, hill hold, ABS with EBD, ESP, and ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, high beam assist, and forward collision warning to name a few.

The Toyota Hyryder's safety kit includes dual front airbags, surround view monitor, vehicle stability control, side impact protection beam, pedal release system, rear parking sensors, reverse parking sensor, and child proof rear door locks to name a few.

Price

The price list for the Renault Duster hybrid powertrain is not out yet but the base model starts at price point of Rs 10.29 lakh. And the base model of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder hybrid version start at Rs 16.72 lakh. The Maruti Suzuki Victoris hybrid will set you back by Rs 16.37 lakh and can go all the way up to Rs 19.98 lakh.
