Spied: 2017 Triumph Street Cup spotted!

There were reports on Triumph working on a 900cc cafe racer, and now there is more proof to support the same. The 2017 Triumph Street Cup, the name of this upcoming model, will be powered by the same motor that comes in the Street Twin. Triumph had submitted documents to the California Air Resources Board and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to register two new models. This includes the Street Cup cafe racer as well as a new Bonneville T100.

From the spied images, it is clear that the 2017 Triumph Street Cup shares its design with the Street Twin which can be seen from the headlight, engine, suspension set-up and frame. The Triumph Street Cup gets a compact windscreen, clip-ons for the essential cafe racer stance and an updated exhaust unit. Also, it gets a single floating front disc compared to the twin-disc layout on the Street Twin.

Powering the Triumph Street Cup cafe racer is the same parallel-twin liquid cooled 900cc motor that comes on the Street Twin. This unit makes 55PS at 5,900rpm and 80Nm of torque at 3,230rpm. We have already sampled this motor in our Triumph Street Twin review and felt that it feels way more alive in the mid range and low revs than the one in the previous iteration. Progress from standstill is quick, and there is tons of torque available in every one of the five gears. You can read about it in our first ride review.

The 2017 Triumph Street Cup will be positioned among the Street Twin (Rs 6.90 lakh) and the brand's larger models like the Thruxton R (Rs 10.90 lakh) and thd the T120 (Rs 8.70 lakh). We expect Triumph to bring the Street Cup in India with a price range of Rs 7-8 lakh.
