Renault Nissan India plant crosses 35 lakh powertrain unit production milestone

The Renault-Nissan manufacturing plant in India, set up near Chennai as joint project by the two alliance partners, has now produced over 35 lakh powertrain units. Since engine production began here in 2010, over 23 lakh engines and 12 lakh gearbox have been manufactured here. The first one lakh engines from this facility rolled out of here in 14 months with the 10 lakh milestone coming in six years.

Global engine hub for Renault-Nissan

This engine plant is a global hub for the HRA0 three-cylinder turbo-petrol that goes into cars like the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger, as well as the 800cc and 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated units found in the Kwid and Triber. The plant can produce up to six engine variants as well as four gearbox types, many of which are exported to overseas markets.

HRA0 turbo engine

The unit that achieved the milestone was the HRA0 turbo engine. This turbo-petrol puts 100PS and 152 Nm when paired with the CVT, with the torque increasing to 160 Nm when paired with the five-speed manual. Know more about this engine and the tech that goes into it here.
