Renault India to hike prices across range

Renault India is expected to shortly announce a price hike across its model range. The price hike is likely to be around two per cent and will offset the impact of rising input costs. The carmaker currently retails the Kwid, Pulse, Scala, Lodgy and Duster models in India. The carmaker has not revealed when the new pricing will come into effect.

"We will be increasing the prices as input costs have gone up. We are currently evaluating the period as when to undertake the exercise. It will be in the range of one to two per cent." said Sumit Sawhney, managing director and CEO, Renault India.  In August this year, Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai hiked prices across their model range by around Rs 20,000 citing the same reason.

Renault has showcased the India-bound 2017 Koleos at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. Based on the CMF-CD platform, the new Koleos will offer buyers the choice of two petrol and two diesel engines. Once launched in India, it will compete against the Chevrolet Trailblazer, new Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the Hyundai Santa Fe.

Last month, the Renault Kwid scored a one-star rating for adult occupancy in crash tests conducted by Global NCAP.  During crash tests conducted in May this year, the Kwid had scored zero stars for adult occupancy. The Kwid currently commands a waiting period of 3-4 months and with the launch of the new 1.0-litre trim, the waiting time is expected to go up further.
