Renault has previewed a new concept SUV called the Bridger, which hints at a future sub-4-metre model being developed specifically for the Indian market.

The carmaker has confirmed that the production version of the Bridger will be designed and engineered in India, and the full concept will be officially revealed on March 10.
Early teaser images suggest that the Bridger will feature a boxy and rugged design, including a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, a styling cue often associated with SUVs such as the Ford Ecosport and Land Rover Defender. The teasers also show illuminated Renault lettering on the front, a design element similar to what is seen on the latest global version of the Renault Duster.
Despite its tough appearance, Renault says the Bridger will remain an 'urban' SUV and will measure under 4 metres in length, which would allow it to benefit from India's small-car tax regulations. The company also claims that the compact size will not come at the cost of interior space.
In terms of positioning, the Bridger is expected to sit alongside the Renault Kiger in Renault's India line-up rather than replacing it. Mechanically, the new SUV is likely to share the Kiger's 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing around 100 PS, paired with manual and CVT gearbox options.
More details about the Bridger's design and features are expected when Renault unveils the concept version next week.
