Mercedes G-Class Cabriolet Prototype breaks cover

The new Mercedes G-Class Cabriolet is completing its first test kilometres in Austria, and later on it will be headed to Sweden where it will be tested through harsh winters.

The images confirm a folding soft top, a side hinged rear door panel with a spare wheel mounted on it. Overall silhouette remains the same, but the Cabriolet guise will be offered with a four-door layout. The images do not showcase the front face, but the rear gets sleek tail lights on the rear bumper along with a slim tail light above the spare wheel. We can expect the G-Class Cabriolet to be offered with electric and ICE powertrain option along with all the bells and whistles.

The roofline has been redesigned to integrate the retractable soft-top roof, and it gets all the typical G-Class features such as flared wheel arches, slab-sided doors, and the flat bonnet to name a few. The outgoing petrol guise uses a V8, 4.0-litre engine that pushes 850 Nm of peak torque and 605 PS of power. The company claims a top speed of 220 kmph and gets an all-wheel drive system.

The interior feature list includes two 11.6-inch touch displays that runs the latest MBUX multimedia system, a Burmester 3D surround system with 18 speakers, wireless smartphone tethering, wireless charging, a dash cam, blind spot assist, automatic park assist, active lane keeping assist, adaptive high beam assist plus, active steering assist to name a few.

The company is yet to announce a debut date for the G-Class Cabriolet and we can expect more information regarding and powertrain and other features in due time.
