Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is one of the very few EV convertibles you can buy

Maserati is expanding its electric vehicle inventory with its first battery-powered convertible, the GranCabrio Folgore, after introducing the Grecale Folgore SUV and GranTurismo Folgore coupe. The GranCabrio Folgore is just a GranTurismo Folgore with the roof sawed off. It employs three electric motors to create a maximum of over 800PS.

The powertrain consists of three radial-flux permanent-magnet motors, each with its own silicon carbide inverter. Two are in the back, and one is at the front. Each motor is said to produce about 400PS which would mean on paper, the car should produce roughly around 1,200PS.

Unfortunately, the battery cannot produce this much power. Maserati claims a maximum output of 815PS in "MaxBoost" mode; in regular mode, there is about 760PS at your disposal. Maserati claims the new EV has a 92.5 kWh battery pack, although only 83 kWh is useable and on the WLTP cycle it has a range of 448 kilometres.

The GranCabrio Folgore electric variant shares the gas-powered Trofeo's soft folding roof, which is available in the same five colours. The top folds down in 14 seconds and back up in 16, as long as you're moving at or below 50 kmph.

There are six standard and 27 special-order paint colours available for customization. Similarly, of the six possible wheel types, two are aero-optimized for Folgore and optionally equipped with low-rolling-resistance tyres to enhance electric range.

Inside, there are all of the creature amenities you'd expect from a premium electric vehicle. As a result, the seats are trimmed with a new fabric composed of recycled nylon from sources such as fishing nets. The music system has up to 16 speakers, seat-mounted warmers that blow on each passenger's neck, and an interior to match the massive premium that Maserati will be asking for.

The Folgore variant adds a few extra characteristics to the jewel-like digital Maserati clock, such as signalling charge status, in addition to functioning as a G-force meter, accelerometer, and stopwatch.
