Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara gets acoustic vehicle alerting system

Maruti Suzuki has added a new safety feature, called 'acoustic vehicle alerting system' in the Grand Vitara. It is to be noted that only the strong-hybrid variants, such as Zeta+ and Alpha+ will come equip with the new feature. It will be available as a standard fitment across both variants of the SUV. To put it simply, the vehicle alerting system warns pedestrians when they come closer to the vehicle while it is being driven in an EV-only mode, avoiding any accidents. As a part of this update, the automaker has revised prices of the Zeta+ and Alpha+ variants. Both variants have witnessed a price hike of Rs 4,000.

What is 'acoustic vehicle alerting system' in the Maruti Grand Vitara?

The EV-only mode makes the Grand Vitara awfully quiet while driving and that could cause accidents if pedestrian are unaware of any such vehicle approaching to them. To avoid any accidents, almost all electric vehicles (EVs) around the world feature external speakers to alert pedestrians, such as people going across the road or walking along the pavement. In this case, the carmaker has designed 'acoustic vehicle alerting system' similarly. This system produces a low-level alert sound, that is audible to any pedestrians from five feet away from the Grand Vitara. With this, walkers can be alerted when the car is approaching closer to them.

Since the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara has received the new safety feature, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is also likely to follow the suit soon. Unlike the two variants of the strong-hybrid Grand Vitara, the Urban Cruiser Hyrydyer gets three strong-hybrid powertrain variants, namely S, G, and V.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: Powertrain

The Grand Vitara is powered by a 116PS 1.5-litre, inline four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine mated to an e-CVT automatic transmission. This model returns a claimed mileage of 27.97kmpl. Whereas, there is also a 1.5-litre, inline four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol unit with mild hybrid functionality producing 103PS and 137Nm of torque. This motor comes mated to a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. Notably, Maruti offers the latter with all-wheel-drive paired with only the five-speed manual gearbox.
