KTM price hike of up to Rs 40,000

KTM has increased the prices of its popular 390 range in India, making models like the KTM 390 Adventure X and KTM 390 Duke noticeably more expensive. The latest revision comes as part of a broader strategy by Bajaj Auto, which no longer plans to absorb the higher GST applied to bikes above 350 cc.

The KTM 390 Adventure X now costs Rs 3.43 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), reflecting a Rs 17,000 increase over its earlier price of Rs 3.26 lakh. However, the overall jump is even more significant when compared to its launch price of Rs 2.91 lakh. Over time, feature additions and tax-related adjustments have steadily pushed the price upward, resulting in a total increase of around Rs 52,000. With the latest hike, the on-road cost in many cities is expected to approach or even cross the Rs 4 lakh mark.

The price rise is even steeper for the KTM 390 Duke. The streetfighter, which was earlier priced at Rs 2.99 lakh, now carries a price tag of Rs 3.39 lakh, an increase of Rs 40,000. This change comes months after Bajaj initially shielded buyers from the impact of the revised GST slab of 40 percent for motorcycles above 350 cc. Now that this support has been withdrawn, the full price impact has been passed on to customers.

These revisions also create a wider gap between the 390 Duke and its smaller sibling, the 250 Duke, with the difference now standing at over Rs 1.2 lakh. At the same time, it hints at future plans, as KTM and Bajaj are reportedly working on new sub-350 cc motorcycles to take advantage of the lower 18 percent GST bracket.

This strategy is similar to what Triumph Motorcycles has done with its 350cc lineup in India. Going forward, both the current 399 cc bikes and upcoming smaller-capacity models could be sold together, giving buyers more options across different price points.
