JSW Motors teases upcoming SUV based on the Chery iCar V23

JSW Motors has teased the upcoming SUV based on the Chery iCar V23 on its social handles and we can expect the debut by late 2026 or early 2027. We can expect the car to be offered with electric or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain options.

The SUV will be manufactured at the company's plant in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra, which means that it will be priced competitively. The SUV will be the brand's first offering for the Indian car market and we can expect a price range of Rs 15-25 lakh, and that places it to be close rivals of SUVs like the Mahindra Scorpio N and MG Majestor and Hyundai Alcazar to name a few.

Powertrain
In global markets, Chery's iCar V23 is available with two electric drivetrain choices. The entry-level version uses a single rear-mounted motor producing 136 PS and 180 Nm of torque, paired with a 59.93 kWh battery pack. This rear-wheel-drive (RWD) model claims a driving range of up to 401 km and It can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in a claimed 11 seconds and has a top speed of 140 kmph. There is a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant as well, it delivers 211 PS and 292 Nm of torque, equipped with a larger 81.76 kWh battery. The claimed range for this model stands at up to 510 km.  It can dash from 0-100 kmph time of 7.5 seconds, while the top speed remains unchanged at 140 kmph. Depending on the battery option, the iCar V23 supports DC fast charging at speeds ranging from 85 kW to 104 kW.

Features
In terms of features, the cabin layout includes a 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth tethering with 540-degree surround view, retro styled centre console, six-driving modes-Comfort, Sport, Slippery, Off-road, and Individual, 180-degree front-folding seat, and stretchable storage pockets to name a few.

The safety suite of the SUV offers ADAS functionalities like Autonomous emergency braking (AEB), Front collision warning (FCW), Rear collision warning (RCW), Rear cross traffic alert (RCTA), Door open warning (DOW), Lane departure warning (LDW), Lane keeping assist (LKA), Blind-spot detection (BSD) and Lane departure prevention (LDP) among others.
