Jeep Meridian 7-seater SUV leaked ahead of August 26 reveal

Jeep India has unveiled its three-row Compass-based SUV, the Jeep Meridian. Internationally, it will be known as the Jeep Commander, and it will be available in South America first. The Meridian will be the name of the right-hand-drive variant, which will make its way to India. In Jeep's global lineup, the Commander will slot above the Compass and below the Grand Cherokee.

The Meridian, based on the Compass, is a larger three-row SUV that will compete with the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. A handful of near-production-ready Meridian's was reportedly sighted in India, with the India debut scheduled in 2022.

The Meridian's design is clearly inspired by Jeep's most recent next-generation models. The sleek seven-slot grille and sharp LED headlamps provide an intimidating front end with the same square-jawed appearance. It's worth noting that the rear is totally new, with slim LED taillights similar to those found on the Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

The seven-seat Meridian is anticipated to have the same engine options as the Compass. A 1.4 litre turbo-petrol engine and a 2 litre diesel engine, however, the Meridian's diesel engine is believed to be tuned to a far higher level. Both engine options will come with manual and automatic gearboxes, as well as optional all-wheel drive.

The interior concept of the Meridian is identical to that of the facelifted Compass. The materials and ideas employed, however, are distinct. Jeep has yet to announce the Meridian's precise specifications and features, although advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), a panoramic sunroof, and multi-zone automated temperature control are all expected.

The UConnect 5 infotainment system, as well as the 10.25-inch digital instruments display, auto headlights and wipers, electronic parking brake, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, eight-way adjustable front seats, an Alpine audio system, a powered tailgate, 360-degree cameras, and more, are all carried over from the 2021 Jeep Compass.

The Jeep Meridian is likely to debut in India in early 2022, with a price tag of Rs 1.5 to 2 lakh more than comparable Compass models. Jeep is planning four models for India, the third of which is codenamed the H6.
