Hatchbacks to be launched in India in 2017
If you are looking to buy a new hatchback, we have compiled a list of launches that are expected to happen next year. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno, which is already selling like hotcakes, will be accompanied by a performance-centric Baleno RS that comes with a new 3-cylinder Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine. The other highly anticipated launch is that of the new-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift. Based on the Baleno's platform, the new-gen Swift will feature a new design and will also come with additional features. The facelifts that will be coming next year include the new Hyundai Grand i10 and the Chevrolet Beat.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno RSEstimated price: Rs 8.5-9.0 lakh
Maruti Suzuki will be bringing a performance-spec variant called the Baleno RS. The company already showcased the Baleno RS concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. It will be powered by a new 3-cylinder Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine that makes 112PS and 175Nm and will come paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. 2017 Chevrolet Beat/Activ
Estimated price: Rs 4.8-5.5 lakh
The spied images reveal the new large profile headlamp design, sleek radiator grille with a chrome surround as well as a more sculpted front bumper with fog lamps. Its central air dam looks identical to that of the existing Chevrolet Beat. The same has been already seen on the Essentia sedan. The Chevrolet Beat facelift might also be equipped with the MyLink2 touchscreen infotainment system. It will retain the powertrain from the existing offering. 2017 Hyundai Grand i10
Estimated price: Rs 5.0-6.5 lakh
The facelifted Hyundai Grand i10, which was unveiled earlier this year at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, will be launched in India in January 2017. The exterior gets minor updates like new bumpers, LED DRLs, new design diamond-cut alloy wheels, an updated rear-window design and a new spoiler, which keep it looking fresh and similar to the latest Hyundais. New-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift
Estimated price:Â Rs 4.85-7.5 lakh
This new-generation Swift too will be manufactured at the company's brand-new facility in Gujarat. Based on the same lightweight platform as the Baleno, the new-gen Swift is expected to be lighter by 50-80kg than the present iteration. Suzuki might also equip the 2017 Swift with a Boosterjet motor along with a CVT/AMT transmission. The new Swift is expected to arrive in Indian showrooms by early 2017. 2017 Tata Nano/Pelican
Estimated price: Rs 3-4 lakh
Tata Motors has been testing its new hatchback that rivals the likes of the 1.0-litre Renaullt Kwid and the Hyundai Eon. Being developed under the project name Pelican, the new hatchback will be equipped with a 1,000cc 3-cylinder motor. The Tata Pelican might also come with a diesel motor that the company has been testing on the Nano. The test mules of the 2017 Tata Nano/Pelican also features a comparatively premium cabin with a new layout. While there is no official word on this hatchback, we believe the 2017 Tata Nano/Pelican to hit showrooms late next year.
Tata Tiago Aktiv
Estimated price: Rs 4.0-5.5 lakh
The Tiago Aktiv gets the usual additions like matte cladding on the front and rear bumpers with bash plates underneath to give it a crossover look. The matte grille and the bright aluminium-finished strip on the bumper make it look different. It gets contrasting roof rails, a sporty vinyl with new alloys and a matte black rocker mould. The Tiago Aktiv will share its powertrain options with the regular Tiago hatchback. It will compete with the likes of the Mahindra KUV100 and the Maruti Suzuki Celerio. 2017 Volkswagen Polo
Estimated price:Â Rs 5.5-9.2 lakh
The Volkswagen Polo will be receiving a facelift next year wherein it gets a new headlight design and tweaked tail lights. We also expect Volkswagen to equip the Polo with a new 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink. The engine options will be retained from the present range.
