Ducati India has recalled a total of 393 units of Panigale V4 and Streetfighter V4 over a defect at the rear axle of the single sided swingarm. The models affected of the Panigale V4 are of make 2018-2024 and the Streetfighter V4 is of make 2018-2025. The recall is a global operation which includes around 10,000 units in the US, and close to 7,000 units in Germany.
The recall has been initiated due to an incident that happened in September 2023 when the rear axle broke while the bike was in motion. There have been no reports of wheel detachment because of the defect but it can cause serious injuries and accidents. The reason why the axle broke has not been identified. As per the documents submitted at the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) in the US, the reason why the axle broke can be due to multiple factors like vehicle condition, incorrect chain adjustment, or incorrect wheel adjustment to name a few.
Ducati has started the inspection and replacement campaign where the company is contacting owners of the above-mentioned models to schedule replacement of the rear axle at the authorised dealerships.
