BYD India has begun a voluntary inspection and recall programme for its electric sedan, the BYD Seal, following concerns over a possible defect in the car's high-voltage Blade battery.
- BYD Seal recalled over a fault linked to cells in the battery pack
- BYD is offering to replace the battery pack free of charge
While the company has not shared the total number of cars involved, it has reached out to all Seal owners in India and asked them to have their vehicles checked at authorised service facilities.
The issue is believed to be linked to certain cells within the battery pack. As a preventive step, BYD is offering to replace the complete battery pack free of charge if a fault is detected during inspection.
Customers are encouraged to schedule a service visit, ideally between Monday and Friday. At the service centre, technicians will run a diagnostic scan using the vehicle's on-board system. If the scan flags any abnormalities in the battery cells, the entire battery unit will be swapped at no cost to the owner.
For owners who are unable to drive their cars to the workshop, BYD India has said it will arrange for authorised staff to collect the vehicle and take it to the service centre.
This recall applies only to the BYD Seal and does not affect other BYD models sold in the Indian market. The electric sedan is offered with two battery capacities - 61.44kWh and 82.56kWh - and is available in three variants: Dynamic, Premium and Performance, with the top-spec version featuring all-wheel drive.
