BMW India has confirmed that a more powerful petrol version of the X3 is on the way, with pre-bookings for the new X3 30 xDrive opening at 12:30 PM on January 30, 2026. The SUV will be officially launched on February 16 and will be locally manufactured at BMW's Chennai plant.

Engine and performance

The BMW X3 30 xDrive will be powered by a 2.0-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine. In global specification, this motor produces 255 PS and is paired with an 8-speed Steptronic automatic gearbox. Power is sent to all four wheels via BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system. With this setup, the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in around 6 seconds. The India-spec model is expected to use the same powertrain.

For reference, the outgoing X3 range in India includes the xDrive20 petrol, which makes 190 PS and does the 0–100 kmph sprint in 8.5 seconds, and the xDrive20d diesel, which produces 197 PS and completes the same run in 7.7 seconds.

Variant positioning and features

In India, the X3 30 xDrive will be offered exclusively in the M Sport Pro trim. While BMW has not yet revealed the full list of features for this package, it is expected to include sportier design elements and additional equipment over the standard M Sport versions already on sale. These upgrades are likely to help differentiate the 30 xDrive from the existing xDrive20 variants.

Global and India context

Globally, the latest-generation BMW X3 has already debuted with the X3 30 xDrive and the performance-focused X3 M50 xDrive. For the Indian market, BMW is focusing on the X3 30 xDrive as a sportier, more powerful addition to the lineup, sitting above the current xDrive20 petrol and diesel models.

With local production and a stronger petrol engine, the BMW X3 30 xDrive is expected to appeal to buyers looking for sharper performance and a more premium, sporty package in the midsize luxury SUV segment.
