The motorcycle has been created by a small team from BMW Motorrad's Custom Speed Shop and is based on the standard BMW R 1300 R roadster. Power comes from the same 1,300cc boxer-twin engine, which produces 145 PS and 149 Nm of torque. BMW says the race-inspired build is capable of reaching top speeds of around 275 kmph.

The Superhooligan's design pays tribute to BMW's historic Daytona racing success. It carries the '83' race number, referencing McLaughlin's winning machine, and features the classic colour scheme of the 1970s R 90 S race bikes that competed under the Butler & Smith team. Blue highlights on the aluminium rear frame and fork tubes add contrast, while the brake calipers are sourced from the BMW M 1000 RR.

The Superhooligan uses carbon fibre bodywork and a carbon front wheel from the M 1000 RR, helping to reduce weight while improving performance. The suspension features a fully adjustable Wilbers upside-down front fork, which has been extended by 30 mm to allow greater lean angles, along with a Wilbers rear shock. Other race-oriented parts include fully adjustable Advik hand levers, milled BMW Motorrad footrests and an Akrapovi? titanium exhaust with a carbon end cap.

BMW Motorrad brand ambassador Nate Kern will ride the R 1300 R Superhooligan in the Mission Foods Super Hooligan championship during the MotoAmerica Daytona 200 weekend, which takes place from March 5 to 7, 2026.

Alongside the debut of the new custom bike, BMW will also showcase the original Butler & Smith R 90 S race motorcycles from 1976 in the paddock.
