Bajaj Auto launches 2018 commuters - Discover 110, Discover 125, Platina, V12, and V15
Bajaj Auto has beefed up its commuter with the launch of the all-new 2018 Bajaj Discover 110 and the refreshed 2018 Bajaj Discover 125, as well as launched the 2018 Bajaj Platina and the 2018 Bajaj V12. The Discover 110 is priced at Rs 50,496 (ex-showroom, Maharashtra) while the Discover 125 is priced at Rs 53,491 for the drum and Rs 56,314 for the disc-brake variant (ex-showroom, Mumbai). Bajaj has priced the 2018 Bajaj V12 at Rs 58,549 and the 2018 Bajaj V15 at Rs 64,179 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new-for-2018 Discover 110 uses a heavily-updated version of Bajaj Auto's 109cc, air-cooled single cylinder engine. The motor offers 8.6PS and 9.811Nm in its current guise and is mated to a 4-speed gearbox. The Discover 125 continues with the same 124.6cc, air-cooled single cylinder engine as before, mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Outputs remain unchanged at 11PS and 10.8Nm, though Bajaj Auto is claiming the engine is smoother now, thanks to lower friction levels. Both motorcycles now feature double LED DRLs surrounding the headlamp, as well as 16 per cent longer suspension. Bajaj has also simultaneously updated its cruisers the Avenger Street 220 and Avenger Cruise 220 for 2018.
Goes without saying both engines use Bajaj Auto's DTS-i technology and use dual spark plugs for better combustion, thereby improving engine performance and fuel efficiency. ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency for the Discover 110 stands at 76.3kmpl while the Discover 125 boasts a claimed efficiency number of 66.7kmpl. Both motorcycles get a new, digital-analogue instrument cluster that houses a large analogue tachometer and a digital readout for vitals including speedometer, trip meter and fuel gauge. The Discover 110 and Discover 125 also get electric start as standard along with blacked out engines, bar-end weights and alloy wheels to offer a premium look, as also gas charged rear shock absorbers that use piggyback reservoirs, just like before.
The Discover 110 does not get a front disc brake, though the Discover 125 does get a 200mm front disc brake as an option. The Discover 110 thus slots in between the Platina and the Discover 125 in Bajaj Auto's commuter line-up and will compete with the likes of the TVS Victor, the Honda Dream Yuga, Dream Neo as also the recently launched Hero Passion Pro and Passion X Pro. The Discover 125 on the other hand competes with motorcycles like the Honda Shine and Shine SP, as also the Hero Super Splendor and Glamour 125.
