2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio launched in India, prices start from Rs 4.99 lakh

Maruti Suzuki has launched the second generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio hatchback in India. Prices for the new Celerio start from Rs 4.99 lakh for the base LXi and bookings have already begun across Maruti Suzuki Arena showrooms and online for a Rs 11,000 deposit.

2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio exterior, dimensions

The new-gen Maruti Suzuki Celerio is 55mm wider and than before. The sub-four-metre hatchback is now based on Maruti Suzuki's Gen 5 Heartect architecture and carries a new design. The high-roof design of the previous generation Celerio has been tempered with better proportions while there is a rounded theme to the hatchback's looks. This is seen with the rounded edges to the grille, lighting as well as bumper elements. Notable is the heavy chrome and running across the grille and the chunky detailing in the bumper. A large but crisply styled glasshouse remains with simple body panels and contrasting black alloy wheels are seen on the top-spec versions. The rear again carries forward this soft-edged look with the compact taillamps and rounded bootlid.

The interiors have been redone with a new dashboard design dominated by large, vertical air vents with circular theme silver highlight around the centre stack and the gear shifter. There is also be a small rounded instrument binnacle and a new steering wheel design previously unseen on Maruti Suzuki offerings. Interior space has grown significantly over the last car with a 95mm increase in legroom, 60mm more front shoulder room, 20mm more rear shoulder room and wider door apertures. Boot space has grown by 40 per cent to 313 litres.

Notable features are a 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto/Apple Carplay, a semi-digital instrument cluster, 15-inch alloy wheels, push-button start, steering mounted controls, 60:40 split rear seats and powered mirror adjustment. The Celerio gets the government-mandated safety features but also adds a hill-start assist function. The new structure also improves rigidity and crash safety

2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio engine, gearbox, mileage

The 2022 Celerio debuts a new engine offering from Maruti Suzuki. This 1.0-litre K10C Dual Jet motor now gets the same injector, higher compression ratio and heat management advancements as the larger K12N. Outputs have improved to 67 PS and 89 Nm but the big news is that the Celerio is now the most fuel-efficient car in India with an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure of 26.68 kmpl. The new engine features start/stop and can be had with a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT. A CNG variant based on this engine is set to follow soon after.

2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio variant-wise prices, rivals

The base AMT version of the Maruti Suzuki Celerio is priced at Rs 6.13 lakh, available from the mid-VXI trim. The top-spec variant is the ZXI+ AMT which is priced at Rs 6.94 lakh. Rivals include the Tata Tiago, Hyundai Santro, Datsun Go and the Maruti Suzuki WagonR.
