2019 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios hatchback launched in India at Rs 4.99 lakh

Hyundai has launched the Grand i10 Nios in India at Rs 4.99 lakh. The Grand i10 Nios is the third generation of the i10 hatchback and bookings began on August 7 for Rs 11,000 deposit, across all Hyundai dealerships and on official digital platforms.

The Nios' frontal design is dominated by a sharper and wider iteration of the Hyundai cascading grille, with the edges housing the boomerang-like DRLs. The projector headlamps, placed above the grille like in the Santro, are more flowing than earlier, which alongside the more muscular bonnet and prominent lines along the sides of the car, give this hatch a more aggressive look. The heavy upward sweep to the C-pillar and the widened bumper add to this sense. In numbers, the Nios is 3805mm long, 1680mm wide, 1520mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2450mm. The hatch is now 40mm longer and 20mm wider but the height remains the same. Wheelbase has grown by 25mm compared to the older car.

As far as the interiors are concerned, Hyundai has followed the trend set by its newer cars, with a slightly geometric motif on the inside, but here the space is finished in a dual-tone grey theme. The C-shaped door trim and dash inserts reiterate this. The touchscreen seems like a 7-inch unit, which should come with Android Auto/Apple Carplay connectivity. Other notable features are the semi-digital instrument cluster, rear-view camera, wireless charging the climate control system, and dual airbags.

The new hatchback will come with reworked versions of the engines already present on the current Grand i10. In fact, the present Hyundai Grand i10 will be sold alongside the Nios, but with a revision to its prices. The Grand i10 Nios will come with one petrol and one diesel engine option. The 1,197cc 4-cylinder petrol motor currently makes 83PS and 116Nm. Hyundai says that this and the diesel motor will be retuned for improved low-end performance and better fuel efficiency. The diesel motor is a 1,186cc 3-cylinder unit with 75PS and 194Nm. Further, the petrol motor will be BSVI compliant at launch. Both engines will be available with a 5-speed manual and, new for this generation, also with the 5-speed AMT that debuted on the Santro.  the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios petrol manual and petrol AMT have a fuel efficiency figure of 20.7 and 20.5 kmpl. Their diesel counterparts return 26.2 kmpl and 28.4 kmpl respectively.

The Grand i10 Nios now gets a diesel AMT version for the first time, one of three diesel variants. Seven petrol variants and three diesel variants are available. Another new initiative by Hyundai is the option of choosing a variable standard warranty package. Customers can get the Nios with either a 3 year/1,00,00 km, a4 years/50,000 km or a 5 years/40,000 km package.
