If Porsche’s stint in India can be viewed as a production house, then surely the Porsche Cayenne SUV is the blockbuster. It has done quite well in our country already, and now it’s time for the sequel. The new Cayenne comes with a much newer look and also consists of a larger cast than before, starring a diesel engine and a hybrid option in addition to the regular three petrol engines. Overall, I think it would be fair to say the Cayenne looks a lot smarter and a bit sleeker than before though ironically it has a higher drag co-efficient than the previous model. Porsche is making no secret of the fact that there are some Panamera-inspired bits, notably the front end with similar headlights and a slender bulge on the bonnet. Sitting at the top of the air intakes are a pair of thin-strip LEDs while the design of the hood itself is considerably different. The further you journey towards the rear, the more the similarities lessen, however, a side view of the back end clearly demonstrates Porsche’s efforts in making the Cayenne look a part of the family; it has a near identical sloping roofline to the one on the luxury sedan in purely styling terms. The interiors also seem luxury inspired (read Panamera inspired) with the triangular shape of the steering wheel ditched for a much more appealing round one with paddle shifts placed behind. Trapezoidal-shaped aircon vents complement the centre console which also divides the front part of the cabin into two. Apparently, ‘Porsche Intelligent Performance’ is the new mantra of the company which has inspired them to offer more power with each engine but without compromising on fuel efficiency, surprisingly. All the engines are 20% or more fuel efficient than earlier, thanks mainly to a new 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox and close to 200 kilos of weight shed. The respective engines for each model and the prices are given below. The company is also set to open Porsche Centres in Chandigarh, Chennai, Kochi, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. Cayenne – Rs. 65,82,000 (3.6 V6, 300 HP) Cayenne S – Rs. 78,62,000 (4.8 V8, 400 HP) Cayenne S Hybrid – Rs. 75,46,000 (47 HP Electric Motor, Total Output of 380 HP) Cayenne Diesel – Rs. 59,22,000 (3.0 V6, 240 HP) Cayenne Turbo – Rs. 1,27,10,000 (4.8 V8 biturbo, 500 HP) Visit the next page for the Press Release |
