The Ultra Low Cost (ULC) car project that Bajaj and Renault were planning may soon be underway as the two companies, have agreed to their objectives and assigned partners for the project after a meeting between Carlos Ghosn and Rajiv Bajaj in January 2010. The project between the two companies does not overlap Nissan’s price centric project of making a car ranging between $4500 to 5000 for which Nissan is looking for partners in India. Here is what the original press release says: “1. As already known Messrs Carlos Ghosn and Rajiv Bajaj met in Delhi during January 2010. 2. Further to these meetings the broad contours of the ULC project have been agreed to. 3. Partners are aligned to the project and to the agreed objectives. 4.The project is proceeding as planned and to schedule. 5.The ULC project between Bajaj, Renault & Nissan on the one hand and the "price centric 4500 to 5000 $ Car" (for which Nissan is reported to be looking at partners in India) on the other, are non-overlapping & hence non conflicting.” |
