The Apache has just returned from a service. The engine was sounding coarse and a lot of other things were going wrong. On the job card were things like clutch adjustment, brake pad and shoe inspection, instrumentation lights (which conked off again). The Apache returned after two days but the clutch still needs adjustment and rear brake still needs looking into with all the squeaking. The front disc feels mushy as well. What’s more, the front right indicator too has stopped winking! Guess the work done was more superficial, like setting the instrument lights right. Considering such a service would cost the customer Rs 300, I would surely be disappointed.
However, it continues to be a hoot to ride, both around town, and on the highway where clocking 100kmph speeds comes easy. The Apache keys also changed a few hands this month, with Vikram taking it for a weekend ride to Mumbai. And though everyone appreciated the bike’s hooligan bent, they also agree that it wasn’t aging too well. We haven’t however witnessed a drop in fuel efficiency which continues to hover around the 44kmpl mark. Now with the RTR 160 due for launch, we hope the gremlins with regards to service are sorted out in a hurry.
